The ASM Minority Travel Award (MTA) was established to increase participation of underrepresented minority groups at ASM conferences and programs. Open to faculty and postdoctoral scientists in the microbiological sciences from underrepresented minority groups.
ASM Minority Travel Awardees are required to serve as a mentor in the year-round ASM Future Leaders Mentorship Fellowship (FLMF) Program and attend the entire ASM Microbe 2024, Thursday, June 13-Monday, June 17.

Award Package
Award package includes:
- Complimentary registration to ASM Microbe 2024.
- Up to $1,250 travel support to cover travel-related expense.*
*Travel funds will be provided in the form of a check or ACH, within 15 business days after the conclusion of ASM Microbe 2024.
Eligibility
Applicants must meet the following criteria when applying for the ASM MTA:
- Be a faculty member or postdoctoral scientist.
- Be from an underrepresented minority (URM) group (e.g., racial and ethnic backgrounds, individuals with disabilities and disadvantaged backgrounds).
- Be a U.S. citizen, permanent resident or DACA eligible.
- Must have a 2024 ASM Microbe accepted abstract (abstract submission information required during application process).
- Be an ASM member (2024 membership year). A membership number is required during the application process. Please allow 24 hours for new memberships before applying.
Submission Requirements To Be Considered For a Travel Award
- Abstract must be accepted.
- Curriculum vitae (CV) including research, teaching, outreach and funding information provided.
- Letter of nomination written by a professor, advisor, mentor, employer or director of the department provided.
- Note: CV, letter of nomination and any additional documentation must be combined into 1 uploaded document (PDF preferred).
