Brandon Ellis is currently the Laboratory Manager for the Division of Medical Microbiology at the Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Md. Ellis graduated from the University of Delaware in 2007 with a Bachelor of Science in Medical Technology and received his Master of Business Administration from Loyola University Maryland in 2020. He began his career working at the Johns Hopkins Hospital as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist. He then progressed to Lead Clinical Laboratory Scientist, where he oversaw the aerobic/anaerobic and enteric bacterial pathogen sections. He oversaw the validation and implementation of MALDI-TOF mass spectrometry in the clinical microbiology laboratory. Ellis then transitioned into a broader leadership role as Laboratory Supervisor, and recently into his current role as Laboratory Manager. Throughout his career, Ellis has focused on developing laboratory staff, improving clinical laboratory operations and participating in various research studies and clinical trials. Despite transitioning to management, he maintains his clinical skills as a member of the Johns Hopkins Hospital Bio-Containment Unit, which provides care and testing for patients with high-consequence pathogens.
