ASM Joins #ShutDownSTEM

June 9, 2020

#ShutDownSTEM

It is clear we have to step up and do the work to eradicate anti-Black racism. As members of the global STEM community, ASM feels compelled to stop doing “business as usual.”

We must engage directly with eliminating racism.  #ShutDownSTEM is the time for White and non-Black People of Color to educate themselves and define a plan of action. June 10 marks the day that we transition into a lifelong commitment to eradicate anti-Black racism in STEM.

Help Us Do Better

ASM’s Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Task Force has asked ASM to visibly and outwardly commit to a practice of inclusive diversity with equity, access and accountability. Findings of the task force will shape ASM’s core values and strategic planning in the near future. If you have an idea that can help shape a more diverse future at ASM, we welcome your input.

What Is ASM Doing?

ASM stands in solidarity with the Black community and in the fight against racism and injustice. On June 10, ASM’s major activities for both staff and leaders not directly fighting COVID-19 will be paused, to spend the day educating ourselves about systemic racism, listening to experiences of staff and members and collectively mapping our way forward. ASM is committed to embracing diversity, equity and inclusion in our staff, volunteer leadership, membership and STEM worldwide.
