ASM Journals Connects to Global OA Switchboard Community
Washington, D.C.—March 29, 2024—As part of our continuing commitment to open science and open infrastructure, ASM Journals is pleased to announce that we have joined the OA Switchboard community to simplify the reporting on and sharing of open access journal information.
OA Switchboard is a community-based infrastructure project that aims to streamline the dissemination of OA-related publication data to funders, institutions, librarians and other interested parties. These data are fed directly from ASM’s production system through the Switchboard so that a consistent standard is followed. This real-time reporting will simplify the management of open access funding mandates and will provide efficient and straightforward exchange of information throughout the publishing lifecycle. Such infrastructure and reporting will be vital as ASM Journals moves its 6 hybrid titles to a subscribe-to-open (S2O) publishing model.
“By facilitating a seamless exchange of information between publishers, funders and institutions, we are ensuring that ASM’s OA initiatives operate on a foundation of openness and trust. ASM Journals' integration with the OA Switchboard is a testament to our commitment to these values, paving the way for a more transparent, efficient and collaborative scientific community,” said David Haber, ASM's Director of Journal Operations. Through this initiative, ASM is not only simplifying compliance with open access mandates; we are also reinforcing the infrastructure that underpins the ecosystem of open science.
Yvonne Campfens, Executive Director of Stichting OA Switchboard added that the “OA Switchboard shapes collaborative infrastructure to make the ecosystem work better for everyone. It is a mission-driven, practical solution that thrives on collaboration. The more stakeholders connect, the better the service for everyone. We are delighted to have the American Society for Microbiology, with their OA ambitions, participate in the initiative.”
